When Mansi Sharma stepped out of her house in one of her priced '70s-inspired sunglasses, onlookers stopped and stared. It was not unusual for her; curious onlookers would always ask her from where she buys her sunglasses.
Delhi-based Sharma, a journalist, photographer and also the owner of GoSpiff, has had a collection of vintage frames for more than three years. So one fine day, last month, she along with her engineer friend, Pritish Chatterjee founded GoSpiff, which sells specially curated and handcrafted vintage sunglasses that the duo collects from suppliers and their various travel trips. "We started scouting for unique sunglasses that signified a certain era as we loved vintage frames. There are so many people like us who love one-of-a-kind sunglasses but don't know where to get them."
As retro sunglasses and frames have always been available, one wonders what makes GoSpiff different. "Through GoSpiff, we are just trying to share our love for sunglasses. Everybody has known about the John Lennon round frames but how many can get hold of a geeky Woody Allen frame or even a classic '70s disco glasses under one platform?" Sharma asserts.
The duo operates the label through their Facebook page and all the sunglasses are under Rs 1500. Sharma and Chatterjee, however, are wary about converting it into an e-retail website. She says, "We don't want to turn it into a business because we don't manufacture the glasses.
We source them from various suppliers and our travel sojourns. Also, as these are limited edition we would like to keep GoSpiff very simple." u00a0Though the brand is just two weeks old, Sharma has big plans for the future. "We want the label to be niche and have pop-up shops at various restaurants in Mumbai and Delhi," she signs off. u00a0You can buy GoSpiff glasses by logging on to their Facebook page www.facebook.com/gospiffu00a0
