Axetortion perform at last year's Independence RockWho's who of rockAfter the initial selection from bands, eight powerhouses (from each city) have been selected from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata. From this lot, one band from each city will battle it out in the finals that will take place on November 26 in Mumbai. The bands performing in the city regionals include Providence, SummerPint jUNKie, The Ungulates, BLEK, Chronic Phobia, Aftertaste, The Lightyears Explode and Spook.
Rock fans at Chitrakoot GroundsFarhad Wadia, founder of Independence Rock says, "This year, we had 300 entries from all over India. Bands had contacted us from as far off as Assam, and even Ranchi." The winner of the competition takes home one lakh rupees as prize money.
This year will also witness a simultaenous broadcast on November 27 from 5 pm to 11 pm where a total of 25 bands (including the winners and other finalist bands), will be performing in four cities. So, Indian Rock fans get six hours of unadulterated, live footage . The finals, that will take place on November 26 will be at Andheri's Chitrakoot Grounds and is a free entry event.
Even the big guns did itConsidering that some of the most known bands in the country such as Parikrama, Indus Creed, Pentagram, Demonic Ressurection and Mumbai band Scribe (who were nominated at the European Music Awards) were first noticed at the I Rock, this is one competition that delivers what it promises -- hardcore Rock, Indian style. I Rock, which is now in its 26th year, has been listed as No. 9 on the list of the Top 10 Music Festivals around the World.
