Anita Nair's debut collection of poems titled Malabar Mind takes the reader back to the region in essence
Anita Nair
First published in 2002, Malabar Mind, a collection of poems by author Anita Nair is her debut attempt at published poetry. Centered on the theme Malabar, the erstwhile district that she hails from, Nair believes that even though district may have been split and renamed it still exists as a state of mind. The poetry delves into many different aspects of the region, from the natural elements to daily activities, to the smells and the sights.
There is no clear pattern in the rhyme scheme throughu00a0the book though a few pieces do keep up to alliteration the others are free-flowing verse. While the poem An Ostrich's Love Song evokes a sense of underlying humour, Malabar Mind talks of deep nostalgia. The ones titled Sleepstar and The Deciding Day on the other hand follow a pattern of simplistic verse in fewer words (as many as two or three in a line). This easy-to-read collection is poetry for almost anyone. Excerpts from
the book.
