We went for an Italian food promotion in Blooms and came back liking it. Here's whyItu00a0was just getting nippy when I walked out of Blooms to grab a seat at the area outside. A live band was playing Metallica (yes, the concert that was cancelled due to absurd reasons was still on my mind) and there were chefs at one side, tossing up culinary delights the aroma of which helped increase appetite. An Italian food festival was on at the coffee shop. Next door, the hustle and bustle at ever-busy office area in Nehru Place was gone. Ahead of me were lush green lawns and a blue-as-blue-can-be pool. But no, it was too cold for a dip, I chided myself.
The interiors are warm and nice, but if you can ignore th chill, sit outsideI decided to concentrate on the food instead. The promotion will feature different dishes every day. The chef, Stefano Nicodemo, has been flown in all the way from Napoli. All of 28, he already has an impressive resume and has worked all over the world.
As we got chatting, I picked up some cold meat (flown in from Italy) along with olives and Italian cheese. The cold meat was succulent and quite impressive. I walked up to the counter and picked up some Beef carpaccio (beef with capers, mustard and mesculun mix) which was good as well. These, I paired with some decent Italian red wine.
For the mains, there was some nicely cooked Roasted rack of lamb with flat beans and shallots confit, Pan seared sea bass with peas puree, mint, star anise and baby vegetables and chicken risotto. The fish was soft and fresh and the lamb was quite juicy. I wouldn't recommend this promotion for vegetarians (Italians are primarily non-veg), but this is sure a meat lover's paradise. The menu, though, features quite a few dishes for vegetarians too. But you will have to be really cruel to yourself to ignore the call of the meat (yes I know I am hardcore non-vegetarian).u00a0
I liked the way the risotto was cooked. You could actually feel the grated cheese in your mouth as opposed to most places where it is usually a creamy mish mash, perhaps more mayonnaise than cheese. The buffet has quite a few delicious chocolate dessert items (and some Indian ones too), but I recommend you go for the tiramisu. Nicely Italian!
