Arty Basinski, who plays the drums/percussion in the band says that their music is like Reggae but with an Electronic touch. "Our music has Sitar and Tabla sounds too," he says. Basinski's creativity has made him a sought-after drummer in Melbourne and Toronto.
The band is not new to India as the co-founder and songwriter of the band, Jeremy Malcomson has studied the sitar in Varanasi under the guidance of Ustad Amrendra Jha. Malcomson is the vocalist of the band and he also plays the sitar and guitar. He has spent many years in Asia, accumulating knowledge about music. According to Basinski, they love Indian music.
"We love the classicals, RD Burman, Zakir Hussain and Ravi Shankar," he says. Pete Warren-Smith, the bassist is also the co-writer and co-producer of the band. Hugo 1 is the emcee. The man with the gift of the gab is a solo artist in his own right and a regular crowd pleaser with the Dub Dragon.
Reuben Hedditch, who plays the keyboard and Rene Mancuso, the percussionist comprise the rest of the band.
The band is excited to perform in Pune and Arty says, "Puneites should look forward to some crazy dancing and groovy music."
There will be an opening and closing act by Reggae Rajahs, who are India's first Reggae sound system. So, head to High Spirits to get high on this instrumental magic.
