Okami HD has been remastered again. This time for the PS4 and it's available in 4K. The game is now more than 10 years old and still looks as unique as it did in 2006. Okami employs a Japanese watercolour visual style and includes some brush related gameplay in the main game itself.
You play a wolf named Amaterasu, the word Okami means Great God and Wolf depending on how it is written. In the game you can headbutt things and jump, but most of the complex controls happen with the celestial brush where you have to paint symbols onscreen to do various things.
The game play is a lot like Zelda, you have to explore the world around you, solve puzzle and talk. There is a lot of talking, which is a bit annoying as the text pacing on screen is very slow and there is this mumble chatter sort of sound with the writing that is meant to signify some unfamiliar language, but gets very annoying. We spent the first 20 minutes just scrolling through conversations. The game probably shows its age here with the pacing. For a 10-year-old game, the graphics look phenomenal, though the game could do with better camera controls.
There are no additional features or extra content that distinguishes the game from the previous HD version, so if you have the HD you might not want to get it. However, if this is your first run in with Okami, be ready for a visual treat and a great story steeped in Japanese culture.
