Located centrally in Amanora is the new Haagen-Dazs ice-cream lounge. Yes, you read it right, this isn't an ice-cream parlour, but a lounge.
This super-premium brand of ice-cream offers a range of exotic flavours, at a price, of course. You can taste as many flavours as you wish but don't just settle for a scoop here. Sit down on their couch and flip through the menu. It's several pages long and it all looks gorgeously delicious. Choose a creation with pastries (waffles, brownies, biscuits, muffins) or a platter (with several scoops) or even thick Haagen-Dazs shakes and hot chocolates.
We've indulged in Haagen-Dazs before and know just how delicious they are. So, we decided to go in for the kill: a Chocolate Fondue (Rs 1,500 including taxes). This took almost 15 minutes to arrive and helped us build up an appetite. When it arrived, the chocolate was sizzling with a tea-light under it to keep it warm, and surrounded by platters of goodies to dunk into it.
You can choose from four flavours of your favourite ice-cream and they will give you four mini-scoops of each (that's 16 mini-scoops of Haagen-Dazs ice-cream). Our Belgian chocolate was rich, dark and heavenly. The Raspberry sorbet was deep red, tart and crisp - a must-try here. The Cappuccino was a robust flavour that tasted delicious when dunked into the molten chocolate. Overall, we recommend you just spoon-off the ice-creams by themselves and then, relax over the rest of the fondue.
Next, we dipped into the two healthy chunks of chocolate chip muffins, moist and delicious with the fondue. The four little rectangles of brownie, though, were a bit of a let-down for not scoring on the fudgyness meter. But the chocolate chip cookie pieces were perfect - warm and crunchy.
The fruit options figured last on our fondue-fork but the pear, apples, oranges and bananas gave a lovely juicy bite when drenched in chocolate. Fruit has never tasted as luxurious before.
We couldn't really finish the bubbling chocolate and it seemed almost an insult to waste it. So, we asked for a doggy bag and they indulged us by pouring it into a hot chocolate take-away glass. We came home and froze it. Then, we chopped it into chunks and enjoyed rich Haagen-Dazs chocolate cubes for the next few days: proof of the sheer goodness of their melted chocolate.
Haagen-Dazs products are super creamy since they limit the amount of air that is whipped in. They all contain egg as well and that's how they have been tantalising taste-buds across 50 countries since 1961.
They source the ingredients from around the world - vanilla from Madagascar and chocolate from Belgium.
While Häagen-Dazs is expensive (because of the import premium) this brand is all about indulgence and luxury. So go ahead and indulge in a sinful dessert experience.
