If you missed watching Gandhi - The Musical last week, book your tickets for this evening's show ASAP, suggests a trusted source. The musical is at par with Broadway and Westend performances and opens with an African track by Paul Simon. The play, directed by Danesh Khambata is not preachy, but talks about both Gandhi the leader and Gandhi the man whose personal life struggled because of his chosen path. Everyone in the audience got emotional at different points of time and when, at Independence, Gandhi turns to the Tricolour to sing the National Anthem, every one in the audience sang along. This is the vow you need to renew with your country.
Living with a different mind
Jerry Pinto's A Book of Light is a brave new collection of 13 stories of people, who've seen members of their family rise, fall and wallow in their mental conditions. From a son recounting his mother's failing battle with her mental illness, to a mother's struggle to finally speak out about why her daughter committed suicide, these stories will tug at your heartstrings. The story of bipolar playwright Swadesh Deepak, in particular, is a bold account. His son remembers him with both, love and bitterness. There are many heroes in these stories. The one who is battling the illness is definitely the fighter. But, the one who is witness to this battle, is no less.
