These musicians purify their voice before it reaches you and choose to call themselves Distil Soul

This weekend set aside some time, for a Mumbai-based band that promises you music from their souls to touch yours. They are called Distil Soul and there certainly is reason for it. "The name Distil Soul comes from the fact that my music is soul music distilled to increase the concentration of, separate or purify it from the rest. I choose to think that we distil our souls in the music we create together as a band and each one of us creates and purifies our sound," says Shefali Alvares, musician and vocalist of the band.

The band derives its inspiration from a host of genres blues, rock, reggae, soul and jazz backed by Alvares' powerful voice. "Our music is an amalgamation of all these genres," claims Alvares. The current line-up of the band includesu00a0 Shefali Alvares on the vocals, Jarvis Menezes on the keyboard, Pozy Dhar on guitar, Jai Row Kavi on the drum and Rushad Mistry on bass guitar.

While their music belongs to a rather experimental category they do have something waiting for all music fans in town. The weekend performance will see them play both covers and their latest original compositions. "My set for Bangalore is a mix of all kinds of artists from Amos Lee and John Mayer to bands like Toto and jazz versions of songs like Smoke on the Water and Sweet Dreams. Also, Stevie Wonder covers and a couple of originals like Ancient Lives, Home and Fire of your Love will be part of the performance," Alvares tells us.

Talking about the originals that will make it to the city-stage, Alvares says that the track Ancient Lives thatu00a0 has been penned down by her father noted jazz musician Joe Alvares just a week ago and is still due for recording. The musicians of Distil soundu00a0 comes with a bagful themselves but have their share of expectations from music lovers in the city and know that they aren't all that easy to please. "They are an intelligent audience and I enjoy every second on stage. I'm hoping to see people I have met before and make new music lovers," says Alvares.

Ancient Lives
They come from the stars Riding on the wings of time Searching for a stolen light They're searching in the dark of night They ride in clouds In chariots made of fire and gold Shooting arrows through the years Flying on to find their soul Space time science lies Can I trust the world tonight Space time science lies Are we sky walkers from the Nile
