For instance, there is what they call the Tram Bar. This bar, made of pinewood, is shaped in one of Kolkata's most iconic itemsu00a0-- the tram. Another product is the High Court Shelf, a teakwood and veneer bookshelf with many of the distinctive architectural embellishments found in Kolkata's famous High Court building. Others include the Howrah Bookshelf (shaped like the Howrah bridge), Haath Rickshaw Bench (inspired by the city's hand-rickshaws), Maidan Bench, Taxi Bench, Bengal Weave, etc.
The founder of AIZA, Ipsita Johri, says her first collection was always going to be Bengal-inspired. "Growing up in the old districts of Bengal, living in British-constructed houses, the fascination with wooden furniture, long byzantine pillars, high ceilings and fabulous architecture... Naturally I picked Bengal as the inspiration for my first collection."
The pieces are going to be on display for two days.u00a0
