A significant number of our city's historic landmarks, or architectural legacy, is owed to the British and the Portuguese.

Sadly, we remain indifferent to the maintenance of heritage structures that include churches, synagogues and forts.u00a0The almost 300-year-old St Thomas' Cathedral in Horniman Circle is one such example from where a 30-kilo brass lectern was recently stolen.

In the effort to shake us out of our stupor, Dr Louiza Rodrigues will host a talk on the geo-political, historical and environmental significance of forts in areas including Mahim, Bandra, Sion and Dharavi. Organised by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) of Mumbai, the presentation will include the various ways in which we can help raise awareness about the preservation of these forts.
