There's a new art gallery in town that may just be your ticket to good health.

"I wanted to create a hub where people could connect and express themselves through art in this space," says Le la Tayebaly, founder of Sayitincolour.

So, how's that good for health, you might rightly ask. "Having an activity through which one can express oneself and get better at over time, boosts self-esteem," says Leila.

Instructors at The Art Loft will help students connect and express themselves through different mediums of art. Le la Tayebaly, founder, Sayitincolour, is in the centre, in white.

And high self-esteem, you will agree, is the key ingredient for leading a happier, and therefore healthier life.

Classes will be conducted by trained professionals, including Heeba Shah (National School of Drama), Tanya Sharma (National Institute of Fashion Technology), French-Egyptian artist Mirit Mikhail, who teaches belly-dancing, and graphic designer Aditya Mahajan.

Art Therapy and Colour Exploration are two of the courses that will be conducted by Le la herself. "Art is therapeutic because you are seeking to express yourself through a medium.

Therapy is when you have a 'transformative tool', as in psychotherapy, where you're guided by the counsellor to understand certain things within a particular structure, using the appropriate techniques," adds Le la, who is trained in the German method of Dr Margarethe Haushka.

People suffering from asthma, anxiety, insomnia, and even physical injuries can get help through the class says Le la.

Art therapy includes the study of light and shadows, which interestingly involves learning how to breathe properly.

Le la works with a lot of organic, pure colours, which she says is based on a person's temperament and reaction to certain colours.

However, Leila advocates visiting a trained medical professional in case of severe ailments, reiterating that the effects of Art Therapy can be experienced only over a period of time.

However, Art Therapy isn't necessarily only for those "suffering" from a specific ailment. "These classes also help an individual's creative self-development," she says.

But when it comes to the mantra for healthy living, the last word belongs to Nikhil Agarwal of All Things Nice, who conducts classes on wine-tasting, "Happiness is the key, and that can only come from doing what you love."

At: The Art Loft, Valentino restaurant, first floor, Mehboob Studios, Bandra (W). Call 9819132958 for details.
Classes are open to anyone over the age of 12, apart from the colour exploration workshop, which is restricted to students between the ages of eight and 21, and the Oenology workshop that's open only to adults.
