The students of Saraswati Vidyalaya Union High School (SV School) were runners-up at Energy Q Quiz, a national inter-school quiz competition that aims to encourage students to save electricity and use renewable sources of energy. A total of 36 schools from all over India were selected for the contest. The event, organised by Club Enerji, aims to involve the youth in propagating efficient usage of energy and to play a vital role in educating the society on issues related to climate change to help build a greener tomorrow.

The Guide chatted with students from the school about simple measures to conserve energy. Gautami Vangar, a standard seven student at SV School, pointed out that steps such as reducing the number of hours you watch television and refraining from using air conditioners can help. "In case you have to use air conditioners, do not keep the temperature below 20 degrees, which will help save electricity. Using CNG can help save energy as well. Switch off the mobile charger button when you're not charging the cell," she advises.

Omkar Yemul, a student of seventh standard, admitted that the competition helped him gain insights on how to save electricity. "We now switch off the lights whenever we leave the room. I have told my parents to use CFL bulbs in the house. We need to save electricity now," he states.

Sadvita Khandare, a teacher from SV School who accompanied the students to the quiz event, pointed out that the event was a great platform for students to learn more about saving electricity. "We have implemented some energy saving techniques at our school as well. The initiative was very nice and I hope that more and more schools participate in it as it gives a good exposure to students."u00a0
