Become a go-go dancer from the ’60s at this electric cardio workout to EDM beats, which also incorporates twerking, jumpstyle and tectonic moves. This high-intensity workout
At 21, Grace Paranjape loves to party. When she was in California studying International Business and Logistics, she frequented many raves. Now before you picture the image of someone snorting a line, "the only drug here is dance and music," explains Paranjape.

Today, she is a trainer at the Soul Studio, the city's first fitness centre at Andheri West where electronic dance music (EDM) is used to get people back in shape. These parties see people grooving to EDM and indulging in freestyle dance forms.

Back in Mumbai after returning from the US, Paranjape joined the Studio last month. "EDM dancing incorporates dance moves and forms such as Go-go dancing, twerking, tectonics and jumpstyle," she says.

Go-go dancing
Go-go dancing picked up in the '60s, and these dancers wore colourful costumes and entertained audiences at discotheques. "Go-go dancers are more of entertainers, interacting with the audience to lift the energy of a place. Their art form even has a comic connotation," says Paranjape, who even joined a professional Go-go dancers' group. "It is not just one dance form but go-go dancers take inspiration from their favourite dance forms to create a smooth, sexy flow of moves. I am a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and I use a lot of mudras, which look amazing when wearing rave gloves. While the electric cardio work is a high-intensity workout, the warm-up is extremely important, too," says Paranjape.
Twerking: This happened way before Miley Cyrus. The move requires one to jerk the buttock out. If you want to strengthen your abs without doing abs, twerking is the answer. It tones the gluteal muscle and even strengthens the lower back. It is better to learn this move in the presence of a professional.
Tectonics: Originated during the '90s in France and the US, this form requires a constant bouncing. The movements are futuristic and performed to Electro House music. It is a high-intensity workout which incorporates raised hand movements and constant bouncing. This is ideal for strengthening and sculpting the upper body muscles.
Jumpstyle: A dance developed in Belgium, jumpstyle is a form of dance in Northwestern Europe, United Kingdom, and the US. The dancestyle includes jumping and kicking your legs forward and backwards on the beat of the music. Jumping is the best cardio workout for your entire body.
