If you are bored of browsing through racks filled with export surplus shirts and Bangkok-imported shiny dresses, Adie might come across like a breath of fresh air. Started by independent designer Meghna Dukle Pandit, Adie is the abbreviated form of A Design Is Everything (ADIE).
While Meghna still retails at multi-designer boutiques in the city, this is her first flagship store. Meghna, a one-time engineering student, went on to hone her style and design skills at the National Institute of Design and later, at Fashion Institute of Technology in the Big Apple.
Mostly made of georgette and crepe -silk with a little bit of detailing with the help of rhinestones or lace, Meghna's designs stick to simple silhouettes with a colour palette that is a mix of black, white, yellows, coral and blue.
The store like her clothes oozes simplistic style mixed with industrial chic with bare walls lined with interesting posters and clothes hung on pipes, "We have showcased stuff in the store, which my husband and I have collected as we wanted a space that should feel like ours." We liked that each garment came with a use tip - advise on what one could pair it with; a godsend for the lazy shopper.
We loved her ivory coloured blouse with pleats and diamante front (Rs 1,800) that would look great with peel-on jeans. We also liked her bell-sleeved blouses in different colours. Presently, all the outfits at Adie are available in a size that is between small and medium, but she takes orders for customised fittings that will be delivered within a week. Meghna has plans to launch a festive line in the coming months.
