Acer on Thursday informed that all its devices running on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are ready to receive the Windows 10 updates along with its latest offerings - Aspire E5-573, Aspire V Nitro- Black Edition and Aspire Rs 13.
Unveiled at an event in the city, the Acer Aspire E5-573 is priced Rs 26,499, the Acer Aspire V Nitro-Black Edition priced at Rs 1,10,000 and the Acer Aspire Rs 13 comes for Rs 89,999.
S Rajendran, chief marketing officer, Acer India, said that the company has finished working on the necessary drivers for the laptops launched in 2015, and consumers can now download the free Windows 10 updates without a hitch. The OS is also available as a free update for older Acer devices running on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
The new Windows 10 OS, which was launched last month on July 29, comes with several new features including a new start menu, which offers access to programs, settings as well as favourite apps as it was in Windows XP but along with live tiles as seen in Windows 8 and 8.1. It also offers a search box built right into the task bar, a notification button on the right, and a multitask button that offers access to all currently running applications.
Microsoft, has stated that the Windows 10 updates will be available to users based on the availability of necessary drivers to suit their device hardware. Indian users, however, will have to wait a little longer to test the personal digital assistant, Cortana, as Microsoft is still working on adding support for Indian English and Indian accent.
Acer also stated that the company is looking forward to Windows Hello, a biometric based service that would allow users to wake computers using biometric means such as an Iris scanner. No expected release date was given though.
