Charcoal, terra cotta, stone, wood and metal are some of the media used by three artists Gautam Patole, Subrata Sen and sculptor Rupali Madan to express their perception of women for their upcoming exhibition - Women & We men, starting Tuesday.

A painting titled Rural Women by Subrata Sen

One of the artists, Patole, who has been a photojournalist, uses his expertise with light and shading to give his charcoal paintings a photographic feel. "I have a collection of portraits from the 1940s and ‘50s which I have sketched. The idea behind this exhibition is for each artist to present women the way he perceives them, and how men perceive them. Most of my works are on Italian paper,"he says adding that his works include rustic village women and Mother Teresa.

On the other hand, 28-year-old sculptor, Rupali Madan's sculptures touch upon emotions of women from motherhood to the doe-eyed lover. "I have worked on 10 sculptures in wood, stone and metal," says Madan, who feels that sculpting is more intense than painting, as it requires hard labour and a lot of patience.

"Sometimes, a piece may take over a month, and sometimes, if the mood sets in, it's accomplished within a week. While working with metal, it is more tedious as it involves making a clay model," explains Madan.

In one exhibition, the three artists aim to capture motherhood, love, support, care, beauty, happiness and remorse in a woman.
