As the much liked video-sharing site turns seven today, we look at some interesting facts related to it.

YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal

YouTube's early headquarters were situated above a pizzeria and Japanese restaurant in San Mateo, California

The first YouTube video was entitled ‘Me at the zoo', and shows co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005.

In October 2006, Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion.

‘Charlie Bit My Finger', which was uploaded on May 22, 2007, is a viral video that has received the most views of any user-generated YouTube video, with over 450 million views. The clip shows two English brothers - one-year-old Charlie biting the finger of his brother Harry, aged three. In Time's list of YouTube's 50 greatest viral videos of all time, ‘Charlie Bit My Finger' was ranked at number one.

April Fool joke: On April 1, 2009, when clicking on a video on the main page, the whole page turned upside down. YouTube claimed that this was a new layout!

In March 2010, YouTube began free streaming of 60 cricket matches of the Indian Premier League. According to YouTube, this was the first worldwide free online broadcast of a major sporting event.
