The update affected owners of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. Many say they had to resort to a complete system restore, meaning they lost data including contacts and treasured pictures. Majority of the users said they encountered problems when doing over the air or OTA updates.

A user posted: iOS:7.1.1 bricked my iPhone 4s. It only shows the ‘connect to iTunes' prompt and when I do it says ‘iPhone update server could not be contacted'.

Another posted: "Just tried to do the iOS 7.1.1 upgrade and it has bricked my iPhone 5S. I cannot get it to switch back on and it is not recognised on my computer with iTunes. Any help please?"

Apple iOS 7.1.1 is compatible with all devices running iOS 7.1, including the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C and 5S, the iPad Air, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display and the latest iPod Touch.
