She is an American of Mexican origin. She's got a job in New York and I am taking up a job in Mumbai. We are constantly in touch over the Internet and phone. My folks have begun looking for a girl from our community. I don't think they will accept a firang as their bahu ever. Lately, this has got me thinking whether we can have a future together. I don't know whether's it the fear of rejection from my family that is making me think like this. What should I do?

Dear Saumil,
Stop thinking and take a decision. Do you want her as a life partner? Will she be willing to stay here or will she prefer you move back to the US? There is going to be a major culture clash and it won't be easy for you and her. Are both of you willing to bear all the odds that come in the way? Your folks will not be too happy with your choice. But then you can't blame them as you have kept them in the dark all this while. Not once did you tell them that you have a steady firang girlfriend. If you are keen to take your relationship to the next level, start talking to your girl and your folks. See how things unfold before you take the next step. It won't be easy at all but then as they say love prevails. So best of luck!
