Teen girls pressured to look like porn stars, says Indian-origin researcher

Pornography is destroying young women's confidence and creating a culture where women need to dress like adult stars to impress men, an Indian-origin researcher has claimed

Dr Gomathi Sitharthan, a professor of sexual health at the University of Sydney, said the unlimited access to porn has warped young people's views of sex and relationships and has long-term effects.

"If a girl seems to like being treated roughly, has sex with five guys, has sex with the pool guy or the pizza delivery fellow five seconds after they meet - inform them that it only happens in movies. This is not the norm," News.com.au quoted Sitharthan as saying.

She said that looking at porn is just part of growing up, especially for teenage boys and there is nothing abnormal about that but due to new technologies, they can have access anytime and anywhere.

Sitharthan said that unlimited access has contributed to teenage boy's "distorted view of the world," in turn young women are encouraged to dress and act in certain ways, and feel pressured to submit to sexual acts that simulate the porn material.

For many young women this means succumbing to intensive grooming rituals that includes Brazilian waxes, tanning and in some cases breast and lip augmentation to gain the porn star look.

For other women it is about dressing in short skirts and high heels mimicking the style of adult stars to give an impression of availability.u00a0
