TigerText enables the sender to set a lifespan for the message. Once this ends, the app erases the text from both the sender's and recipient's phones.
Costing 1.60-pound a month, the app is being marketed at people who need privacy and want to "cover their tracks", reports a major newspaper.
It works only if the sender and recipient are both using Apple iPhones and have the app installed.
Paula Hall, a counsellor with Relate, said: "For couples where infidelity is a possibility, this just makes cheating easier.
