Grape stomping at a Nashik vineyard

Everyone should try this before they die

When Keanu Reeves and the object of his attraction went into a messy but delightful stomp-stomp in a vat full of squishy grapes in Hollywood flick, A Walk in the Clouds, we all secretly hoped we would have our moment in a barrel too. Some vineyards around Mumbai make this possible.

Dating back thousands of years, grape crushingu00a0 continues to be a ritual in all the wine-producing regions of Europe, and it's said that this process results in better-tasting wine, if done the right way. Don't bother about the technicalities involved though; most Indian wineries dispose the juice anyway. Just jump into the vat for a few minutes of messy fun.

Sula Vineyards in Nashik usually has an open-to-all grape-stomping session held at the end of January or the start of February. It costs Rs 200 per person (approx.). Call (0253) 2231663 for details.

Chateau D'Ori, a three-year old winery in Nashik, is planning to introduce its grape-stomping session. Log on to
