Join singer-songwriter Wriddh as he pays tribute to Lalan Fakir and highlights the philosophy of the Baul Fakirs of East India

Keen to understand the music and philosophy of the Bauls of East India? Head to The Hive for the event Stories of the Streets and join singer-songwriter Wriddh, who will sing age-old poems performed by this heterogeneous group of musicians belonging to erstwhile Bengal (comprising West Bengal and Bangladesh).

Wriddh will be weaving a narrative around Baul poetry

"Bauls were basically vagabonds, identified by their distinctive dressing style. They travelled from one place to another, singing songs on birth, sexuality, secularism, cycle of life, among other things. I will be weaving a story around their poems," explains Wriddh.

A part of the music circuit of Kolkata since 2005, the singer has been a core member of bands like Kryptic, Dump Terminal, Wriddh & Friends and his most recent project, The Journo Trio (based in Chennai). While his influences span Folk Rock, Alternative, Classic Rock and World Music, for this performance, he will be singing in his mother tongue, Bengali.

"The narrative will be in English, so that the people in this city can connect to the music. I will also be discussing the influential Lalan Fakir, who paved the way for Baul Music. His poetry was very much ahead of his times and I will be highlighting that in my performance," elaborates Wriddh.
