Take a walk through Anand Paropkari's visual art exhibition to catch a glimpse of Indian dance and music exponents in their element during live acts

In case you haven't witnessed Ustad Zakir Hussain playing a tabla on stage or a performance by the Kathak dancer Anuj Mishra, head to Anand Paropkari's new visual art exhibition on the terrace of the Jehangir Art Gallery to see these exponents in their element.

Believe it or not, but this is a painting of Ustad Zakir Hussain by Anand Paropkari

In his debut exhibition, titled Magnificent Maestros, the self-trained Pune-based artist has photographed various Indian Classical dance and music maestros in different moods and moments.

He says, "Their unwavering commitment to art, innovation in the performance and simplicity of expression is compelling and I've attempted to capture the experience of an artiste while he or she is engrossed in the performance of their art.

The exhibition also aims to document and preserve the age-old cultural traditions that miraculously thrived despite all odds." On display are 40 works five paintings and 35 photographs of stalwarts like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Sitara Devi and the dancing couple Dhananjayans, among others.

"I've attended many concerts over the past seven years and photographed thousands of moments. It was tough to choose a few for the showcase. I also read books related to various art forms and carefully listened to what the masters said, trying to understand their views. The journey itself was enriching," sums up Paropkari.
