This Saturday, learn the tricks of self-publishing e-books from an experienced author
Rohini Gupta
Are you keen to pen a romance or a recipe book but can't go through the ordeal of chasing publishers? Then, a workshop on how to publish your own e-book is where you should be at this Saturday. It will be conducted by writer Rohini Gupta and held at Somaiya Centre For Lifelong Learning in Fort. "I will describe all the steps to create an e-book. If you do the work yourself, there is no cost involved. I will also talk about print-on-demand, a way to print just a few copies at low cost," informs Gupta, an editor with the journal, World Haiku Review.
Gupta admits that most bibliophiles in India still read hard copies and many may not even know how to download an e-book. However, digital books are the future, she feels. "They are easy to acquire and more comfortable to read, since you can change font size. Also, you can carry hundreds on a smartphone or an e-reader. In my experience, those who get used to reading e-books rarely go back to print," says the author, who has self-published six e-books, including To Catch A Falling Star last year.
Self-publishing e-book is also easier than their print counterparts. "You have to learn how to create a good cover, get it thoroughly edited and learn how to format it. There is a learning curve but it's worth it. I do it myself - paint the cover, edit, format and publish. It is satisfying," she sums up.
