Indian sport is on a high, what with both Saina Nehwal and Sania Mirza bagging the World No. 1 ranking in badminton and tennis (doubles). Ashmak Maity finds out whom Mumbaikars would like to see as the next No. 1 Indian sportsperson

From India, I'd like to see the Indian hockey team as the number one because I think, India has a legacy in hockey and we've been world champions for the longest time and retaining that stature would be very interesting. And if it is an individual sport, I'd like to see Vijender Singh making it to the top. The attention on sports in our country was focussed on cricket, until Sania and Saina became the number one.

Vijender Singh has a good chance of being the next No. 1 from India and I would love to see him make it. But that would require some work and he would have to stay away from the film industry.

I am not a big sports fan but I do follow the highlights. Although with his involvement in politics, it might be somewhat farfetched, but I want Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to come back and make India proud.

I would like to see Vijender Singh as the next number one. Not only is my love for Rocky making me say this, but also he is, I think, the closest to being the best in his category. I hope to see him making it to the top in a few years.

Vijay Kumar showed some promise during the 2012 Olympics with two silver medals. But it seems that he has been sidetracked like most of the Indian athletes, since they are not involved with cricket. It would be nice to see Vijay Kumar emerge as the No. 1, as that would be least expected.
