Every family has different Christmas traditions, some decorate the Christmas tree weeks in advance, and some indulge in a feast, while others put their pair of fuzzy socks on and put on a Christmas movie marathon. Every year tons of movies come out to capture our imaginations and spread some Christmas joy. We have rounded up our favourite Christmas movies that will enchant your entire family.
Christmas Chaos
One can't make a list of Christmas movies without the Home Alone series. The tale of eight-year-old Kevin fending off burglars after accidentally being left behind by his family was a laugh riot. Macaulay Culkin reprised his role in the sequel where his character was once again separated from his family and somehow managed to encounter the same burglars again. Both movies are filled with moments steeped in the Christmas spirit.
Divine Intervention
Considered one of the greatest movies of all time, It's a Wonderful Life is the quintessential tale of the Christmas miracle. The movie tells the tale of George Bailey, a man who encounters his guardian angel while he is considering suicide on Christmas Eve. His guardian angel shows George the impact he'd had on the lives of others. The academy award nominated movie was directed by Frank Capra and stars James Stewart and Donna Reed in lead roles.
A Christmas adventure
Disney's Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a fantasy adventure film based on the legendary Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker. Starring Hollywood bigwigs Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren alongside Mackenzie Foy, the movie is a visual spectacle. The story follows Mackenzie who plays Clara, a young girl who travels to magical lands to retrieve the key to a locked egg gifted to her by her deceased mother. The film's soundtrack adapted from the original ballet evokes nostalgia and will charm viewers.
Healing with love
Last Christmas stars Game of Thrones-fame Emilia Clarke as Kate, a cynical woman working year-round as an elf at a Christmas store. Kate is struggling with her many issues and meets a mysterious man. The relationship she forms with him helps her learn how to heal herself. The movie is an ideal watch for those who find themselves wondering in these complicated times. The romantic-comedy also stars Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, and Emma Thompson.
Saving Christmas
An entertaining watch for the entire family, The Christmas Chronicles follows two kids, Teddy and Kate, who manage to crash Santa Claus' sleigh as he visits their house. As Christmas morning approaches, Santa and the children band together to deliver presents before it is too late. The sequel follows Kate reaching the North Pole and battling to save Christmas once again. Both movies serve up holiday cheer and pack many laughs while imparting the message of being good.
Gothic twist
Produced by Tim Burton, The Nightmare before Christmas is a captivating ghoulish fairy tale. Known for his Goth-inspired visual aesthetic, Burton makes this animated musical dark fantasy film come to life. The movie follows Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Town's journey to Christmas Town. Full of songs, laughs, and romance, the Academy Award-nominated movie has something for everyone.
Origins of Santa
The legend of Santa Claus, rooted in folk tales, has many variations. Netflix's Klaus brings to us an alternate origin story of Christmas's central character, Santa Claus. The animated movie revolves around a reclusive toymaker (Klaus) and a postman and dwells on the importance of spreading joy in true Christmas spirit. With several seasonal favourites in tow (Dr. Seuss' Grinch), the Academy Award-nominated movie is a delightful watch especially for kids.
