A soon-to-be-held tea party will teach enthusiasts about the whys and hows of blending different kinds of teas. If you aren't invited, here’s a quick, private lesson
Monsoon is the perfect time to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book. But tea enthusiasts can go beyond that and also learn about different kinds of tea. Silverspoon Gourmet, in association with Tea Trunk, is hosting a tea party where food and tea experts will come together to teach you about tea blends, how to make your own blends and pair food items with tea.
Some of the sample teas that will be served include Oriental Bliss, which is a mix of white and green tea with lemongrass, vanilla and coconut shavings, and Rosy Apple Pie black tea featuring apple, rose petals and cinnamon in black tea. They will also share recipes and goodies.
Tea blending tips
>> Blending your tea helps because you can control the amount of artificial flavourings in your readymade blended teas.
>> When blending teas it's good to use a pyramid method where the base of the pyramid is the kind of tea (white tea or green tea) that you want for the overall taste of the beverage. Introduce an ingredient that will go well with the base. For example, you can use ingredients like cinnamon, elaichi and so on.
>> The last part is meant to give your tea a pleasing fragrance like dried flowers or fruits.
>> Buying a muslin cloth is a good idea. Place your blend in it and string it up.
>> With fresh tea leaves, you can use the bag multiple times for at least three cups of tea.
>> Tea has benefits as long-term tea drinkers have shown a lower body weight and lower percentage of body fat.
