When we first hear that Debonair's Pizza is opening in Mumbai, we are very excited. We had heard a lot of good things about their cheesy pizzas from our friends abroad and this, in a way, was a perfect chance to devour some South African flavours.

So on a rainy night, we get ourselves to the busy bylanes of Versova where the pizza joint is located. The place looks welcoming, with a minimum of six tables that clearly indicates that it is more of a takeaway joint than a sit-down pizza parlour.
The menu is replete with the standard vegetarian, non-vegetarian and sides options. The pizzas come in a real deal (mini), thincrust and the mammoth triple decker pizzas that are supposedly, a delicacy. We try the Chicken triple decker pizza (Rs 331), an original veggie pizza (Rs 196) and pizza pop-its (Rs 140) as our side order.
The chicken triple-decker pizza looks great. It comes with a generous filling of chicken pieces, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, mushroom and onion with the first layer dripping in sweet chilli sauce that gives it a very sugary taste. The cheese and mushroom filling also doesn't help and only adds to the bland flavour.
The original veggie pizza is nothing great either. It comes with black olives, onions and tomatoes, which only tastes good after a generous amount of red chilli flakes and oregano is sprinkled over it. The pizza pop-its are the only thing that saves our dinner; baked to perfection and ooze out creamy melted cheese, jalapeños and corn.
In all, Debonair's Pizza is a great choice if you are low on budget and want to grab a quick pizza. Taste wise, it can do much better.
