Designer treat
"When everyone prefers to go for custom made designer products, then why not Ganesh's prasad?" asks Jayesh Nandu of Vividham sweets in Borivali West. Vividham, adding contemporary touch to the typical sweet, is offering colourful jelly mixed with dry fruits, chocolates with hazel nuts and butterscotch all shaped like the Modak. Vividham's big 5kg designer version is embellished with colorful stones and edible flowers.
Healthy alternative
Sweets are always considered an unhealthy option, but Puranmal Restaurant in Ghatkopar is ready to serve healthy oats and multigrain baked modaks to lord Ganesha. "People prefer coconut-jaggery modak only on the first and last day of Ganeshotsav; in between they prefer different, interesting options" informs Dipti Chawla, director of Puranmal Foods. They are also offering coconut filled with Tutti-Frutti filling, chocolate chip and rich gulkand modaks.
Traditional with a twist
Parel's famous food joint Ladoo Samrat is an all-time favorite haunt among Maharashtrian food lovers. They offer Anjir, Kaju and chocolate-butterscotch mixed modaks to offer this year. "When people go to relative or friends place during festival, they want all fancy options with not only taste but also look good," says Babubhai of Ladoo Samrat. They also stock mango, strawberry, pistachio flavoured versions. One can also find mouth-watering rice flour covered coconut and jaggery stuffed modaks for Rs 12 per piece.
