The just-opened small haunt, Yellow Box, on Andheri’s bustling JP Road whips up an eclectic range of quick bites coupled with a warm, cosy vibe
"It was all yellow." British Rock band Coldplay would have definitely broken into this famous song of theirs, if they would have dropped by the new entrant at JP Road - Yellow Box. Well, if not them, we sure did hum the same in our heads as we got down to work at this new eating place in Andheri.
The Strawberry Tart was scrumptious to the last scoop
Sticking to their name, the small eatery is aesthetically designed, despite a space crunch. Abundant use of the colour yellow on the walls and the furniture add a vibrant edge to the ambiance, but what caught our eyes were the French windows on one side of the walls with painted sceneries, giving an illusion of a view.
Since, we were already late (we reached at 9.30 pm and the place shuts at 10 pm), we didn't waste time with our orders. The one-week old joint offers a range of snacks and some mini meals, so be sure to find options of burgers, Tandoori items, sandwiches and rolls, among other things. We opted for the Spinach and Mushroom Cannelloni (Rs 180), Grilled Herb Chicken in Pepper Mushroom Sauce (Rs 200) and a Chicken Biryani (Rs 190).
Chicken Biryani made for a delicious meal
The items are cooked at their kitchen in Bandra and heated (and fried, in some cases) at the eatery. Hence, we only had to wait a couple of minutes for our order to come. When served, we were bowled over by the biryani - its aromatic flavours, moderate spicing and succulent chicken chunks resulted in a bestseller. The cannellonis were winners as well.
Soft and cheesy, the cylindrical type of pasta was accentuated by the flavours of spinach and mushrooms.
Even though it has limited space, Yellow Box has done a great job with the interiors. Pics/ Amit Jadhav
However, the herb chicken left us a tad disappointed. Firstly, it was not heated sufficiently before being served to us, and so it arrived partially cold. Even taste-wise, the dish missed a trick or two, and was a downer, overall. We ditched the last bites and rounded things off on a sweet note with the delish Strawberry Tart (Rs 55).
Yellow Box showed potential for its varied offerings, served in a jiffy. Add coffee to the menu and we're sure to do an encore.
