Five Fat Monks, a new Pan Asian eatery at R City Mall offers tasty preparations that will... well, make you want to cheat on your diet
Five Fat Monks
The opening of several restaurants at R City Mall in Ghatkopar has left this suburban foodie rather satisfied. And the opening of Five Fat Monks at the mall had us adding another name to the list of watering holes we would like to visit.
The filling Veggie Wok; The Zen Hen needed some more gravy; Lamb Meatballs made for a good starter
The menu of this Pan Asian eatery is concise yet offers interesting options for soups, starters, and noodle and rice preparations. And their speciality, they tell us, lies in their woks where you pick the ingredients (noodles, rice, protein, veggies and choice of sauces) for your dish. We started our Asian journey with a Japanese Soba Noodle Soup ('90, all prices exclusive of taxes) and Juicy Lamb Meatballs ('200). The soup, warm and spicy with the goodness of ginger and smooth noodles swimming within, perked up our mood as it provided comfort to the cold-ridden nose. The skewered meatballs with bits of bell pepper were juicy as promised and made for a good choice with its Asian flavours as opposed to meatballs in barbeque sauce that one is habitual to, in the city.
Next we ordered The Zen Hen ('295) and a Veggie Wok ('275). The Zen Hen looked like it could be wolfed down within minutes with the egg-fried rice topped with generous amount of chicken chunks cooked in a soy chilli sauce. However, the gravy proved to be a little less in quantity, as we didn't have enough to finish our rice. The Veggie Wok saved the dinner with the excellently cooked noodles in a mushroom oyster sauce with our peanuts as garnish. Paneer and veggies were thrown in, too, to make it a wholesome meal. With all the chilli, ginger and garlic burning our palate we ordered for a Chocolate Ãclair ('115) that didn't belong to the paradise of desserts but was indulgent nonetheless with it gooey chocolate filling and a coating of dark chocolate.
