The latest to join the ever-increasing list of Asian food joints is the two-month-old delivery service, Sushiya. Based in Lower Parel and specialising in Japanese fare, including sushi, it launches here after serving the National Capital Region.

We placed an order on their user-friendly website and settled for a 75-minute wait. Our delivery took two hours - which made us wary of how the sushi would taste - and the matcha drink we ordered wasn't available. The food came packed without spillage, accompanied with chopsticks and condiments.

Super Mix Box

We ordered for two sushi boxes; vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The non-vegetarian Super Mix Box (Rs 495 for ten pieces) surprised us with its fresh fish in Salmon Nigiri, Smoked Salmon Maki, Spicy Tuna Roll (the fish was too hot with all the masala) and Philadelphia Roll.

The vegetarian Maki Box (Rs 345 for 10 pieces) came with Avocado, Asparagus, Cucumber and Teriyaki Shiitake Makis, and a Crispy Veggie Roll. Of these, the veggie roll scored for its mix of textures and vegetables. The shiitake had a cloyingly spongy taste, which we couldn't stomach.

The Okonomiyaki (Rs 345), a Japanese grilled savoury pancake, looked like a gobi paratha, and even tasted like one, with charred cabbage overpowering the chicken.

Katsu Don

We skipped the watery Avocado Green Curry (Rs 295) for the Sushiya specialty, Katsu Don (Rs 375). It fared better with thin strips of deep fried chicken and a fried egg with runny yolk mixed with the sweet soy sauce, on a bed of sticky rice. It was a complete meal in itself. Are we likely to order again? Perhaps not.
