Raise a toast to the heartwarming success story of Bombay To Barcelona Library Cafe on their first anniversary
Guests at the cafe
When Amin Sheikh started his dream cafe in a rented garage in Andheri East, spending every penny he earned by selling books on the streets and traffic signals, he decided to never look back. As Bombay To Barcelona Library Cafe celebrates its first birthday, he goes back to the time when Carlos Javier Rueda Hidalgo, a chef from Spain visited India to train his team. "He taught the staff to make churros and muffins. I wanted to run this cafe for everyone, not just for a particular section of society," says Sheikh, who grew up in an orphanage. As a way to give back to society, he invites street kids over for muffins, cookies and hot chocolate.

The first anniversary celebrations will be an all-day affair tomorrow. Guests can look forward to a special performance by Tarang, a musical initiative by Yash Charitable Trust, with free tea and coffee from 10 am to 12 pm. There will also be a talk on sustainable urban farming by Priyanka Shah of iKheti, a Spanish musical performance by the cafe's in-house B2B Band, and a workshop on Art of Asking, among other events. Sheikh is grateful for the support he has received from loyal customers. He says, "I wish to make it four fold bigger than what it is now."
