Cause and effect

Affiliated to the Mumbai District Athletic Association, this run in Mulund stands as a qualifier to all major running events in the city. While you take your pick from the 10-, 5- and 3-km run categories, you can also pledge your eyes, as forms and information will be made available by the Eye Bank of India on the day of the event.

On: August 26, 6 am to 10 am (registrations close on July 31)
Meeting point: Montana, LBS Road, Mulund West.

This 10-km run organised at a pan-Indian level lends financial support to children keen on taking up a sport professionally. As they meander their way through the sea-facing lanes of Bandra, participants can also choose to run for 3 and 5km.

Meeting point: Bandra Fort, Mount Mary, Bandra West.

Eastern frontier

Known as one of the biggest runs in the eastern suburbs, this event in Chembur has a professionally measured race route. Apart from the competitive 10-km run, it also has a fun 5-km variant. Participants in both formats will get a finisher's medal and post-run beer, while those who run competitively also get an e-certificate.

A race with a difference

How about an event which is not a race against time? Organised every Independence Day by the Shivaji Park Marathon Club, the run goes on for 12 hours, backed with a massive medical and volunteer support system. The idea behind the run, the organisers say, is to encourage those who lead a sedentary life to start running for 12 minutes a day, given that there are Mumbaikars who can do it for 12 hours.

On: August 15, 5 am
Meeting point: Shivaji Park, Dadar West.
Entry: Free (voluntary donations will go to paediatric cancer research)
Call: 9820620999

Rugged run

If you are an outdoorsy person and a seasoned runner, this event is for you. Sign up for a 50-km run from Panhala to Pawan Khind in Kolhapur. A combination of craggy, rolling and steep terrain, the route is a picturesque one. If you are an amateur trekker, adventure lover, or wildlife enthusiast, but not so much of a runner, try the 10-km run, so you don't miss out on the fun.

On: August 5, 6 am
Meeting point: Railway station gate, Kolhapur.

Entry: Rs 1,599 onwards
