Tucked in the bylanes of Andheri East is every inventor's dream destination - Maker's Asylum. Here you can get your creative hat on, get your hands dirty and actually shape the idea that you always wanted to work on. One of their upcoming workshops, called STEAM Fabrikarium, is for masterminds who would like to work on projects that would help create devices to aid the physically challenged. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
Speaking of the concept, curator, Ishaan Rastogi says, "We feel there is a lack of open source innovation in India, a country that desperately needs low cost solutions to issues like contaminated water, unavailability of energy, and poor healthcare. Our purpose here is to try and bring innovation to the prosthesis and medicaid sector. Thus, Fabrikarium was born."
The idea required new age fabrication tools to help creating low cost prostheses. To help them achieve this, My Human Kit, an international association working for the healthcare of the disabled, stepped in. The result is a programme that will not only help obtain solutions but can also train participants to use a fabrication lab.

At this workshop, participants will first choose a project to work on, before being divided into teams. "We will have 20 mentors and industry experts who will help teams throughout the duration of the program. Finally, they must properly present their prototypes to a panel of jury members." says Rastogi.
He adds, "Of our 65 participants, 15 will be differently abled. Not only will their inputs and suggestions be pivotal in creating viable solutions, but they themselves will get the opportunity to be trained on machines that are likely to churn out low cost future innovations."
