Story Slam will feature over 12 artistes
How often do you promise someone that you're going to give something your best shot? While this question gets you thinking, over 100 writers have already dwelled on their best - the piece they have poured their souls into. Their mission was to make it to the 15th edition of the story slam organised by Kommune, a Mumbai-based artistes, collective. And this Sunday, Mumbaikars will get to witness over 12 of these narratives.
The story slam will be held at a co-working space in Powai and across eight cities including Delhi, Pune and Hyderabad. Participants were required to mail in their entries via email and also attach audio files to review their voice modulation. Judging teams will also be formed on the spot. "We are currently in the process of shortlisting the performers. With the theme being Bring Your Best, there are a wide range of topics being delved into, from women's issues to the love of writing. There are also two stories on cricket," reveals community manager Shantanu Anand.

In addition to the hand-picked lot, there are also two featured performers - television actress Sriti Jha and Divya Ravichandran, who is the founder of Skrap, an organisation that provides waste management solutions. According to Anand, the city stands out in terms of artistic rigour. "Here, we've observed that people are willing to take slams seriously. The intent is not just to perform, but to listen and learn."

Kommune has another reason to cheer. The community recently acquired a new space in Versova's Aram Nagar that will serve as an office-cum-performance venue in August. Plans are afloat to schedule a programming calendar. Anand concludes, "It hasn't been officially inaugurated yet, although we had a small puja. We will be working out of it on weekdays and host events on weekends."
