The power of storytelling is profound. Stories can share moments of laughter or sadness simply through the emotional impact of words. Sharing them can be thrilling, and listening to them, captivating.
Join in on the excitement with the help of hosts Anuya Jakatdar and Sharin Bhatti Nair at Stories on Toast, a public forum for unpublished authors. Spend a cosy evening soaking up stories from amateur poets and novelists, or share your own. "You come in and you don't even know what to expect - it could be in English, or in Hindi - we have people perform spoken word, poetry, or read excerpts," says Smriti Sant, project lead at Books on Toast, the managing organisation.
Aranya Johar
Sant talks of the power with which some speakers perform, and explains that many stories stem from intimate memories. Speakers are allowed five minutes, or around 2,000 words to perform. As a special surprise, guests such as Aranya Johar will be making an appearance to share their work. There are cool hampers to be won, too. So, gear up for this stepping stone to your career as an author.
