The virtual island built for the festival
Casa Bacardi is a festival that was launched in 2019, a year when the world was still so normal that the event was held in a physical avatar at Bandra's Pioneer Hall, which was given a Caribbean vibe in keeping with the fest's theme. But everything of course went for a toss in 2020, and the festival had to explore the digital medium for the first time. Now, with the pandemic still a part of our daily lives, the organisers have evolved the online edition and built a virtual island that people are being invited to enter this weekend.
Sansar, a platform that creates virtual experiences, has built this island, which you can enter after creating an online avatar of yourself. A hot-air balloon and then a boat-ride take you - or rather your digital alter ego - to the spot where stages have been built for different musical acts such as Divine and Gully Gang, MC Altaf and Gauriwho. Comedian Tanmay Bhat will be the host for the evening, and there are also game booths and hangout zones where enthusiasts can interact with
friends virtually.

"We want to keep the rest of the experience a surprise for our visitors and have tried to make it as realistic as it can be," says Sameeksha Uniyal, one of the organisers. So, if that piques your curiosity, get a boarding pass and hop on to the boat for this virtual ride to the Caribbean.
