Marilyn Monroe
At for $195 million, Shot Sage Blue Marilyn (1964) became the most expensive 20th century artwork to go under the hammer. Ironically, artists from the pop art movement that started out in the 1950s in the USA and the UK made art that was meant to be mass-produced and low cost. Artist Richard Hamilton described pop art as "Popular (designed for a mass audience), Transient (short-term solution) and Expendable (easily forgotten)". In his work, Warhol used imagery from popular culture like advertising, celebrities, mass-manufactured products. His subjects were perfectly tied in with his medium of choice - silkscreen printing. And if art is for all, here's a list of platforms to buy your own Marilyn, Warhol or pop art piece.
If you want your own Marilyn Monroe artwork, here's a canvas piece. As the name goes, they offer other pop art products as well as do customisation.

Nivedita Poddar, founder of Art Fervour, tells us, "Warhol's take on Pop Art speaks on the significance of consumerism in the 1960s; his works comment on the over-commercialisation of society, the over-idolisation of celebrities which in turn commercialises them. Shot Sage Blue Marilyn is a pinnacle of pop art, it embodies, in a holistic sense of his work, his depiction of stardom and explores the relationship between fame, fashion, sensationalism, consumer society. The painting was made two years after Monroe passed, and looks at a society in which individuals become products."
Why is pop art popular?
Poddar explains, "Pop art is fun and accessible because it's easy to consume something familiar. It has been thoroughly used in our current visual culture."
