The Velvet Underground
I remember a friend breaking down into tears the day that Lou Reed died in 2013, and that's when I understood the impact that his music had left. I got into The Velvet Underground after that, the band Reed fronted, and discovered their most seminal album, The Velvet Underground and Nico. It was late in my life, but it remains my favourite start to a musical Sunday morning ever since. Two nights ago, I came across a tribute to the entire record that features people of the calibre of Michael Stipe of R.E.M. The musicians in it have done justice to his legacy, and I'm going to tell my friend to listen to it. It might make him smile.
