MC Stan
The way the burgeoning hip-hop scene in India and across the world for that matter, usually works is that a rapper joins forces with a producer, with the former spitting rhymes that the latter layers with beats. There are only a handful of people in the country who undertake both tasks on their own, and Altaf Tadavi aka MC Stan is one of them. The Mumbai-based rapper-producer has now put his dual skills to use to launch a new album called Tadipaar in collaboration with Believe, a Paris-based digital music-distribution firm.
It's a record with songs that are inflected with desi tunes even as Tadavi employs the use of traditional western beats to embellish the tracks. The lyrical component has the characteristic tropes of cocking a snook at the authorities, especially the police forces, which the larger hip-hop community views with the same sort of animosity that a guard dog displays for an intruder. Overall, it's an accomplished effort. Check out the link below to give it a listen.
