Former Mumbai police chief Paramb Bir Singh
A chargesheet has been filed against Param Bir Singh and three others on Saturday in connection with the Goregaon extortion case in Mumbai's Esplanade court.
Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case. The three other accused named in the chargesheet are suspended APIs Sachin Waze, Alpesh Patel and Sumit Singh. According to the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Shekhar Jagtap , the chargesheet has more than 400 pages.
Two wanted accused namely, Riyaz Bhati and Vinay Singh have been mentioned in the chargesheet.
Shekhar Jagtap told the court that sanction for filing the chargesheet against Param Bir Singh is not necessary because as per Supreme Court's ruling, accusations of extortion don't come in ambit of his duty.

Jagtap said, "we have not taken prior sanction for filling of chargesheet against Param Bir Singh because it was not necessary as Supreme Court has said that protection of 197 CrPc is only for the cases in which a public servant is made accused of something which he has done while discharging his official duty and in this case extorting money was not Param Bir's official duty. So sanction is not needed for him."
SPP Jagtap told mid-day, "We have filled the chargesheet in court. Copies of the chargesheet are given to accused Sumit Singh and Alpesh Patel. Sachin Waze is in judicial custody so him and Param Bir singh will be served the copy on next date of the case."
