The attacker was identified as Anmol Jadhavrao, a resident of Kothrud and son a businessman. He was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
"On Monday evening at 6, when the victim was talking to her friends near Dnyaneshawar Paduka chowk, Anmol approached them in a car and forced her to sit in the vehicle," said a police personnel requesting anonymity.
He said when the girl refused to talk to him, Anmol got angry and in a fit of rage he took out a sharp weapon from the car and attacked her. Fortunately, the victim sustained just a cut on her right shoulder.

"After the attack, the victim ran towards the college. Anmol too ran after her, but could not find her as there were several students standing at the college gate," the police official said. The victim was admitted to a private hospital, where she was discharged after receiving three stitches on her right shoulder.
The girl, along with her parents, approached officials of the Deccan Gymkhana police station in the night and lodged a complaint against Anmol.
The case was later transferred to officials of the Chaturshrungi police station, as the crime had occurred in their jurisdiction.
Police officials said Anmol knew the victim as his sister was her friend, and the victim would visit Anmol's residence to meet her friend.u00a0
