Twenty-four hours after two men posing as policemen entered a house under the ruse of conducting a search and decamped with a gold chain worth Rs 10,000, police managed to arrest one of the accused yesterday. The incident took place at Parvati resident Namrata Navgire's residence in the wee hours of Saturday when her husband was not at home.
The police suspect the two accused resorted to trespassing due to fallout with the husband. The arrested accused has been identified as Kothrud resident Nikhil Khomane, while his accomplice is absconding after the incident.
"In the wee hours of Saturday, Khomane and his accomplice visited the complainant's house and knocked at the door. When Namrata enquired, the accused told her they were from the detection branch of the police department, and there was a complaint registered against her husband Rahul," said Y G Kadam, assistant police inspector of Swargate police station.
Forced entry
The complainant told them that her husband was not at home, and asked them to come later. The two men, however, forcibly opened the door and started looking for Rahul.

"They told her that there was a case lodged against Rahul, but when she queried them about the case, they were unable to answer her and continued with their search," said Kadam. "Under the pretext of looking around, they stole a gold chain that was kept on a table in the bedroom and fled from the spot. While escaping, they also threatened her that they would throw the couple in the canal."
"We have got to know that Khomane is known to the complainant's husband, however the motive is still unknown, as Khomane is not cooperating during interrogations," Kadam said.u00a0He said that complainant's husband Rahul would also be quizzed.
