Jammu and Kashmir government today said that 3,273 people have been arrested in connection with selling of narcotic items and illicit liquor during last three years in the state
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that 3,273 people have been arrested in connection with selling of narcotic items and illicit liquor during last three years in the state.
In a written reply to the question of BJP MLA Satpal Sharma in the Assembly, Minister for Finance Dr Haseeb Drabu said that 3,273 persons have been arrested by the police for selling narcotic items and illicit liquor during last three years till December 31, 2014.
Of these, 2,180 people have been arrested in Jammu region and 1,093 from Kashmir region, he said, adding that 1,891 people have been arrested for selling narcotic items and 1,582 such people were arrested for selling illicit liquor.
As many as 543 people have been convicted in these cases, he said adding they included 465 in Jammu and 78 in Kashmir. However, no person has been put behind bars during last five years for trafficking or drug formulation, he said.
In another case, 418 persons were arrested for smuggling of liquor during last three years and fine of Rs 9.54 lakh have been imposed on them, he said.
