Police said Pak national Maheshkumar Bhulchand Tekwani (26), had furnished a Pune address to secure the licence, which violates his visa rules.
Tekwani was arrested on Saturday night at 9 pm and was yesterday remanded in police custody for two days by the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class). Police constable H P Gambhire from the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) had lodged a complaint against Tekwani on Saturday afternoon. Tekwani had an offence registered against him at the Kondhwa police station on October 1 this year, after which it was revealed that was residing illegally in Pune city.
Assistant Police Inspector A D Phuge told the court that Tekwani had a Pakistani passport (AD4222192), which is valid from February 2010 to 2015. He had come to India on a Long Term Visa (P8746612) and had provided an address of Ulhasnagar in Thane district. Tekwani had registered himself with the Thane police upon arrival, and was not supposed to enter Pune without permission from the authorities. But still he procured a driving licence from the Pune RTO.
"Tekwani had come to Pune on August 2, 2011, and visited the RTO to get a driving licence. He had furnished the address of Rose Parade society in Kondhwa Khurd, Pune, to procure a driving licence and stayed at this address from October 2012 to September 2013," API Phuge said.
"We have to recover the documents used by Tekwani to get the driving licence illegally. We also want to interrogate the agent working in the RTO who helped Tekwani secure the driving licence," he added. u00a0
