New Delhi: A 26-year-old tailor allegedly committed suicide after strangling his pregnant wife to death at their residence in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area. The incident came to light in the evening when repeated calls by a neighbour who was visiting their home went unanswered.
"The neighbour thereafter called police following which a team reached the spot and forced the door only to find Sanjay's body hanging from the ceiling fan with both his wrists slashed while his wife Sugandhi (24) was lying on the bed.
No suicide note was found," said a senior police official. Prima facie it appears that Sanjay first strangled his wife with her scarf, which was recovered from the spot, and later hung himself, police said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
The couple, who married in January, 2013, belong to Bihar's Samastipur and were residing here at a rented accommodation for the past one year. The two worked as tailors in the same locality.
Police, who were trying to find out the details of the duo's phone calls for leads in the case, said they would also "talk to their friends to see whether they had a troubled marriage".
