A woman was set ablaze by her husband after she allegedly failed to fund the marriage of her brother-in-law, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on April 28 in Nevalipada locality of Ambernath when accused Barkhu Jadhav (36) returned home drunk and picked up a quarrel with his wife Parvati and began abusing her over not bringing Rs 5,000 for her brother-in-law's wedding, PSI MK Jadhav of Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar said.
She was asked to bring money from her parents for the marriage. Her husband who was under the influence of alcohol, doused her in kerosene and set her ablaze, police said.
Subsequently, the victim was rushed to Ulhasnagar Central hospital with severe burns where she died on April 29 undergoing treatment, police said.
The accused has been charged under sections 302 and 498 of the IPC. However, no arrest has been made so far, police added.
